Overview

Project Bedrock represents a full-scale infrastructure migration and microservices orchestration project executed as a capstone project for AltSchool Africa. The mission was transitioning a legacy monolithic e-commerce application to an enterprise-grade Kubernetes architecture on Amazon EKS.

The project establishes a secure, highly available, and observable deployment platform for multi-tier microservices with automated continuous deployment.

Architectural Highlights

  • Infrastructure as Code: Fully automated provisioning of Amazon EKS clusters, VPC subnets across multiple availability zones, security groups, and IAM roles with OIDC provider integration via Terraform.
  • GitOps Continuous Delivery: Implemented declarative GitOps synchronization using ArgoCD, automatically reconciling desired state from git manifests with live cluster state.
  • Packaging & Templating: Packaged microservice deployment configurations into modular Helm charts parameterized across staging and production environments.
  • Observability & Reliability: Deployed Prometheus for cluster metric collection, Grafana for operational dashboards and SLI/SLO tracking, and ingress controllers with TLS termination.
  • Container Security: Automated container image scanning on push with vulnerability gate checks in GitHub Actions workflows.
